We’ve Expanded! Doubling Down On Production at Tru Form | Our Article in Register-Guard

The irony of building tiny, is that it actually can take up quite a lot of space! Especially when there’s a fleet of tiny’s in varying stages of construction.

On any given day, Tru Form can be working on up to 12 tiny homes at once, and while we are big fans of small spaces, the time had come to “stretch out more” – a title which landed on the front page of our local newspaper.

The tiny home movement was already booming, but the past few years have shaped and shifted the demand for custom or semi-custom tiny homes even further. While we’re still waiting for  nationwide tiny home regulations to catch up with more flexible places to permanently park, more people than ever are seeking alternatives, and seeing tiny homes as the perfect home, office, or backyard getaway solution.

After five years in business, about 300 tiny homes built to date and a growing six to eight month waitlist, we learned the custom tiny home business isn’t so tiny after all. In February of this year, we doubled our production warehouse by 50 percent, and stretched our 16,000-square-ft footprint to 32,000-square-feet of room to continue our mission to design and build innovative tiny homes to help people live inspired lives.

We celebrated our expansion with a tiny home showcase in February, and hundreds of people* lined up to tour through three fully outfitted tiny homes including our Villa Max, a custom backyard studio Verve, and a custom-built cottage-style vacation rental. We toured and talked tinies for two whole days, and even recruited some new talent to join our team!

We had the opportunity to meet with the Register-Guard, who talked to our CEO Malia Schultheis and COO Jen Carroll about our expansion, the growing team, and of course – all things tiny!

“There’s been more interest…,” Malia shared. “We just had to stretch out more.”

“Though small homes have had a place throughout U.S. history, modern tiny houses grew in popularity during the Great Recession of 2007-09,” wrote Register-Guard Business Writer and Reporter Adam Duvernay. “The houses were only a small part of the market, but they helped Americans re-imagine home ownership. Tiny homes have been presented as pieces of a solution to the housing crisis….. [and] are often used for accessory dwelling units in residential backyards, allowing for greater urban density.”

While Tru Form Tiny was officially established in 2015, Malia and Jen share more than 50 years of combined experience in commercial and residential construction, who fell in love with tiny homes after building their first few out of curiosity, creativity and passion. Jen’s background in environmental science, coupled with Malia’s affinity for interior decor and design, quickly cultivated the foundation for their big future building tiny homes.
